The camshaft is a part of the piston engine. Its function is to control the opening and closing of the valve. Although in the four-stroke engine, the rotational speed of camshaft is half that of  the crankshaft .(in the two-stroke engine camshaft and crankshaft share the same speed) but usually it is still at a very high speed, but it also requires a lot of torque. so during the design ,the strength and supporting of camshaft is demanding, generally, the material is high quality alloy steel or alloy steel. Because the valve motion is related to the power and running characteristics of an engine, the camshaft design plays an important role in the engine design process. let the Anhui Guanshun Camshaft Manufacturing Co., Ltd.  introduce the  working conditions and materials of camshaft。

The camshaft is subjected to periodic impact loads.  The contact stress between the cam and tappet is very large, and the relative sliding speed is also high, so the wear of the working surface of the cam is serious.  In view of this situation, the camshaft axle neck and cam working surface should have higher dimension precision, smaller surface roughness and sufficient rigidity,  high abrasion resistance and good lubrication included.

Here, we will tell you that the camshaft is usually forged from high quality carbon steel or alloy steel and can also be cast with alloy cast iron or ductile iron. The working surface of the axle neck and cam is polished after heat treatment.
