Classification and defects of continuous casting billets

From the appearance, it is mainly divided into the following types:
Slab: The ratio of cross-section width to height is large, and it is mainly used for rolling plates.
Billet: the cross-section width and height are equal, or the difference is not big, it is mainly used for rolling section steel and wire rod.
Rectangular billet: the cross-section width and height are different and the ratio is not large. It is mainly used for rolling hot-rolled steel strip, construction rebar, ordinary wire rod, high-speed wire rod and various small materials.
Round billet: a continuous casting billet with a circular cross-section. The main purpose is divided into tube billet and forging billet according to the diameter. The billet below 300mm is mainly used for the raw material of seamless steel pipe, and the billet above 300mm is mostly forging billet. Raw materials for various forgings.

Continuous casting billet defects
The application fields of continuous casting slabs are becoming wider and wider, and continuous casting slabs have been used in mechanical engineering equipment at home and abroad. Some steels are directly rolled with continuous casting billets to make pipes, plates, section steels, etc.; for some steels, continuous casting billets are hot-rolled into hollow billets (raw tubes), and then further processed into steel pipes. The difference between continuous casting billet and forging billet is that the former is in a cast state, and its defects are far more obvious than that of forging billets, and there are also provisions for "cracks" that are not allowed in forging billets.
Generally, the defects of continuous casting slabs are divided into three categories, namely, surface defects, internal defects and shape defects.
