Changing the cam timing of your 4-cylinder engine is one of the best ways to improve power and performance. By varying the angle between the cam lobes, you can increase the duration of your engine's valves and boost power at higher RPMs. While this type of engine tuning is not perfect, it can improve engine performance over the full engine operating range.

With a VVT system, your engine can be tuned for both high and low-speed operation. It has two independent settings and allows you to adjust the timing of the intake and exhaust valves to improve efficiency. The system is simple and works by altering the timing of the valves based on the oil pressure and the RPM. In addition, you can change the duration of the intake valve to increase peak power.

The 4-cylinder dual VVT camshaft works in two stages. In stage one, the left cam actuates the left inlet valve while the right one actuates the right inlet valve. The timing of the left and right cams is relatively slow. Stage two is where the two cams are connected and the middle one runs on its own. The timing of the two cams is slow in stage one, medium for stage two, and fast for stage three.

The high-rpm movement of the cam lobe is triggered by the rocker arm. This is similar to the way Honda's VTEC works.
